Snow hype for weekend

The conversations about possible snow this weekend is really interesting.

Although I do believe those along the I-20 corridor will see some, I do not believe it will make it's way into SEARK or the Midsouth.

Don't Ask, "Can it get any worse?"

 

 

This month will go down in the record books, if the current forecast comes to fruition.  Mark my words.  The NWS has already issued a Flash Flood Watch for parts of the MIDSOUTH, with anywhere from 2 to 4 inches of rain is expected and some places could get up to six (6)- half a foot of rain before it ends Saturday.  There also the possibility of some severe storms also-especially if we get any type of heating out in front of the main front Thursday afternoon.  I expect flash flooding during the storm and major river flooding to be ongoing next week, especially along the Ouachita and Saline River Basin area.

 

 Also, if you are in Southeast Arkansas, you know that Bayou Bartholomew has been bank-full for weeks, just waiting for next system  to spill over its banks, flood and “finish off” this nightmare of a farm year, but it hasn’t happened yet.   Will this be the one to send it over its banks?

 

As the high pressure over the area today moves off to the east, gulf moisture will quickly return to the area starting tonight, setting the stage for showers and thunderstorms, some of which could be strong to severe Thursday evening and all of which will be capable of dropping heavy rain.   

 

To add insult to injury, the cold front will stall just along the Mississippi River and the lower pressure over the Ohio River Valley will rotate disturbances around, bringing ongoing periods of rain and thunderstorm through Friday.  This could be a very bad weather event to round out, an already record-breaking October.  

 

 

 

Flooding Potential Exist Today

After a gorgeous week of weather, rain returns to the Midsouth today, with the potential for receiving 2 to three inches and prompting the NWS to issue a Flash Flood Watch. There is even the possibility for some areas to get a little bumpy this afternoon as the front moves in to the area, according to the NWS:

"A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE WEATHER EXISTS ACROSS THE SOUTHEAST CORNER OF THE STATE. INCREASED MOISTURE WILL INTERACT WITH THE SYSTEM...ALLOWING FOR SOME INSTABILITY OUT AHEAD OF THE FRONT.SEVERE STORMS WILL BE POSSIBLE ALONG AND AHEAD OF THE FRONT...WITH DAMAGING WINDS AS THE MAIN CONCERN. ALSO...AN ISOLATED TORNADO CANNOT BE RULED OUT."


Beautiful weather will return to the Midsouth this weekend.
