The "relaxing" of the Cold

According to Accuweather.com's Meteorologist Joel Lundberg, the warm up that is now underway should be savored because signs upstream are setting up for more bitter cold to come down and visit the Midsouth in the coming weeks.

There is also the potential for some spring-like storms in the coming days. Ultimately though, God is in control of it all. Let's sit back and see what He has in store for the Midsouth.

We will try to keep you "up to speed" on all of it.

Don't Be Surprised

With the passing of the Artic cold front, temperatures have plummeted this morning(already 42 degrees) from what they were when I retired for the evening last night(64 degrees). Don't be surprised if the Winter Storm Watch is extended further south for our area later on this morning. It is already in the low to mid 30's as far south as Pine Bluff and Stuttgart.

Louisiana & Mississippi snow on satellite

If you look closely on the bottom portion of the satellite image you can see the snowfall that fell yesterday in Louisiana and Mississippi. The day before this occurred, Al Gore and Barack Obama met to discuss the "global warming" situation!

A "tight" image

This is visible satellite image of the upper-level low that skirted across the deep south last night and this morning. That tight circulation that is visible is one of the factor causing those blustery North to Northwest winds today.

Woops! there goes another one...

If you or someone you know wears a hairpiece- please heed this warning. Do NOT go out today! Winds are howling out of the NNW up 30 mph this morning. Gonna be another cold one . Yesterday's high was 48 degrees(right after midnight Tuesday morn) this morning's low was 34. Some parts of the midsouth are dealing with some wintry precip but we are okay.

Cold Weekend in Store

Another cold weekend is in store for the Midsouth. Yesterday's high temp was 4o . Our overnight low was a very chilly 24! Early next week our weather turns rainy with a chance of some T-storms with another cold shot of air to follow.

Wow! What a Difference a Day Makes

The cold front the blew thru the Midsouth last night dropped our temperature at home to 31 degrees this morning. As I left for work my Sportrac had leaves frozen all over it! A nature-made camo job! It works very good until you get up to @ 60 and your vehicle begins to thaw out!

Yesterday's high was 69..our low at my house this morn 31 and we received a little over an inch of rain last night.

What's This?

Next week's outlook could be a little bumpy.

(from the NWS):

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY
HIGH PRESSURE WILL MOVE IN BEHIND THE FRONT ON THURSDAY. ANOTHER
FRONT WILL MOVE ACROSS THE AREA ON SATURDAY. DUE TO A LACK OF
MOISTURE WITH THIS SYSTEM...NO PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED.
THE NEXT COLD FRONT WILL AFFECT ARKANSAS MONDAY NIGHT AND TUESDAY.
THERE WILL BE A CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WITH THE SYSTEM.
THE POSSIBILITY OF STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAN NOT BE RULED
OUT AT THIS TIME.

You can blame the NAO

If you are wondering why the Eastern half of the nation has been experiencing colder than normal temperatures and out West has been warmer than normal, you can look to the North Atlantic for the cause.

The North Atlantic Oscillation or NAO is a weather phenomenon that effects our winter. To make a long story short, it controls the strength and direction of the westerly wind patterns and storm tracks over the North Atlantic and in the winter, North America. It forces the jet stream down into the Continental U.S. for periods of time. The cold air has trouble penetrating the Rocky Mountains so it stays east of the mountain range. When the NAO goes to what the meteorologists call "negative", the high pressure over the North Atlantic blocks the jet stream, forcing the cold down to the Eastern portion of the nation. When it goes "positive" or "neutral", it allows a more zonal (west to east) weather pattern, hence, not allowing the northern jet stream to bring down the cold.

Yesterday's high in Monticello was 54. Our low this morning was 43.
