Chance of storms Saturday then clearing and cooler early next week

After a foggy start to the day temps will climb up into the upper 80's today.  Chances of rain and thunderstorms increase tonight and Saturday as a Canadian cold front makes its way through the Midsouth tomorrow- an unusual event so late in the spring.

A Break- But is it a Sign of a Long-Term Change?

After being awakened by rain again this morning, it was refreshing to look out and not see the brook that runs through our property look like the Cut-Off Creek. Here at the Weather Buzz HQ, we received nearly 2 more inches of rain yesterday(1.9). Since Saturday that makes over 5 1/2 inches!

The Promise

After receiving another .76 of rain overnight, I needed to be reminded of a promise God made in Genesis 9, that He would never destroy the earth by water again.

I hear it thundering in the distance......

Have a good day-and keep dry!

Rain, Rain Go Away!

Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms continued across the Midsouth on Sunday with many areas experiencing flooding. Here at the Weather Buzz headquarters, we received 2.89 inches of rain during a 30 hour period ending at 9 pm CDT.

I cannot recall the last time we have been quagmired in an unsettled weather pattern for such a lengthy amount of time. And it appears it may not be over yet.

Most of the severe storms tonight are expected along the I-20 corridor, although an isolated one can't be ruled out as far north as I-40.

Major focus turns to the current and expected river flooding along the Ouachita and Saline.

trade in your car-for an ark

Heavy rains again pelt parts of the Midsouth this evening.
Meandoring cold front has worked into our area tonite. Look for more of the same tomorrow .

Another Stormy Weekend Possible

The Latest AFD (area forecast discussion) from the NWS is not too promising if you were hoping for a rain-free, storm-less weekend.

"MOST PRECIPITATION WILL OCCUR DURING THE LATE AFTERNOON AND OVERNIGHT HOURS. HEAVY RAIN WILL BE A CONCERN WITH THE GROUND IN MANY AREAS ALREADY SATURATED. SOME OF THE STORMS WILL BECOME SEVERE IN SOUTH ARKANSAS TONIGHT."

After the week the Midsouth has experienced, more storms are anticipated the next 2-3 days.

Don't forget to turn your weather radio back on (it does become annoying sometimes doesn't it) if you have it switched off. Better to bothered than buried !

It's Official: EF1 Tornado Blows thru Drew County

The National Weather Service confirmed Wednesday what most people that suffered damage earlier in the morning already knew- a tornado made a brief but pronounced visit to our area.
The tornado path was about 2.1 miles, cutting a swath from 3.9 miles NNW of Monticello to 2.6 miles N of Monticello.
EF-1 tornadoes produce winds speeds that are between 86-110 MPH, or the speed that some of us have to drive to get to work or church on time( just kidding :) !!!
Thankfully, there were few injuries and no fatalities resulting from this latest round of severe weather.
For damage photos of this event, check out My Monticello News or Monticello Live.
In the long-term, flooding may be more of a concern. A River Flood Warning remains in effect for the lower Saline RIver.

Severe Weather/Flooding Strikes Monticello This Morning

The Monticello/Drew County area sustained considerable wind damage when a tornadic-warned storm moved SEWD across Drew County around 5 a.m. this morning.
No official confirmation from the NWS as to whether it was a tornado or just high winds associated with the severe thunderstorm. But if you seen the radar image on the TV and the classic "hook" echo, it was not a storm to be taken lightly.

To make matters worse, heavy rains have been falling most of the morning.

Check out Monticello Live for photos of this weather event.
